Just finished a 3-day Kokopelli solo. It's been a few years since I had done this route. You forget how crazy beautiful it is. Was a great ride, especially in light of the fact that all the trails are muddy back home. The bike was perfect (running 2x11 Shimano currently). There was an afternoon of some very nasty headwind but quickly forgotten with a burger and shake at Milt's in Moab. Kurt of Raven Shuttle really took care of me and was a great guy to have a wide-ranging chat with.
If you don't know Kokopelli Trail, it is one of the classic bikepacking routes. 140 miles, Fruita, CO to Moab, UT. A mix of smooth dirt, rugged jeep roads, singletrack and pavement. 14,000 vertical means it is for the fit only. Commercial outfitters typically offer 4 and 5-day tours. There is now a nice bike path from town to the trailhead at Mary's Loops area, which you ride through and then on to Rabbit Valley and then to remote dirt roads.
The finish takes you up to the Hazard County drop lot, about 3/4 of the way up the famous Whole Enchilada route. Kokopelli diverges from Enchilada to Sand Flats road that is, mercifully, a smooth downhill into Moab.
